Girl's Education in Rwanda

Objectives

To enhance academic performance, school retention and school completion of girls through annual awareness campaigns and rewarding of best performing girls across the country to turn them into them role models.

Background

The Promotion of Girls’ Education Campaign (PGEC) began in 2005 in an effort to promote girls’ education in Rwanda.

Under the leadership of H.E the First Lady, Imbuto Foundation aims to encourage high academic performance through mobilization of the community, parents, teachers and local leaders who participate in the campaign. BPGs are initially selected by the Rwanda Education Board for those pursuing a regular curriculum and the Workforce Development Authority for girls attending technical schools.

To provide rewarded girls with tools and a platform for continuous empowerment, Imbuto Foundation organizes workshops on social and life skills, and sets up ‘excellence clubs’ in secondary schools. For campaigns and workshops, Imbuto also involves ‘role models’ who are accomplished girls and women and men from different walks of life to share inspirational experiences with Best Performing Girls.
